Mawgan Porth is a deceivingly large golden sandy beach, especially when the tide is low. It is separated from the main coast road by a band of sand dunes at the back of the beach. It offers up great waves for surfing, picking up whatever surf is out there, even providing ripples on some of the smallest days. However, caution must be taken when the surf is rough, waves are often powerful and rips strong, however, this can often be one of the best options on the smaller days.
We would usually choose this beach as our chosen location to surf when the tide is mid to low throughout the day and when the swell is small and the wind is light south to south east.
Parking Two good size car parks located either side of the bridge on the opposite side of the road to the beach.
Facilities Toilets are on the other side of the road next to the northern car park. The beach also has a several beach stores which offer beach goods, Newspapers, magazines along with tea, coffee, pasties, icecreams and other snacks. There are also surf shops offering surf hire along with the pub the Merrymoor Inn.
Dogs Dogs are welcome on the beaches all year round. With the provision of litter bins for all mess.
Safety Lifeguards are provided by the RNLI Easter through till end of Oct 10am to 6pm. Note early and late season this can be weekends only.
